Everyone should have a credit card that garners some sort of reward! If you’re just using cash or debit cards then you aren’t cashing in on the many free offers and rewards that are offered to you! It may be tough to pick the right credit card.  First you want to identify your needs and the right rewards for you.  Here are some of our personal recommendations for top travel credit cards.

Capital One Venture Reward

Best Credit Card for Travel Benefits

This is Tasha’s all time favorite card.  She has had it for years! The sign on bonus is great, it has a low annual fee, and the rewards are easy as pie to use.

Pros:

  • Great sign up bonus 40,000 miles ($400) after $3,000 spend in 3 months.
  • 2x miles per $1 spent on ANYTHING
  • $0 annual fee for the first year
  • Easy reward redemption.  You can redeem your miles for any travel expenses right on their website.  This is a great feature since you can book with any airline, any car rental company, and any hotel and don’t have to stick to certain affiliates.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

Cons

  • $59 annual fee after the first year.

(Expert Tip) – When Capital One charges you their first annual fee, call a representative there to see if you can get it waived.  I have had the annual fee waived for 3 years now just by calling and requesting it.


Chase Sapphire Preferred

  • 2x points per $1 spent on travel and restaurants 1x points on all other purchases
  • $0 annual fee for the first year
  • Redeem points on Chase Ultimate rewards, and you get 20% off travel
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • It’s a beautiful metal card

Cons:

  • $95 annual fee after the first year
  • Must redeem points through Chase Ultimate Rewards – meaning you are subject to the travel partners and prices they give you

Barclay Arrival+ World MasterCard Elite

Best Credit Card for Travel Benefits

This is Cameron’s favorite credit card for travel benefits. It has no foreign transaction fees, the benefits of world elite MasterCard, 2x miles on all purchases, and easy reward redemption.

Pros:

  • Great sign up bonus 40,000 miles ($400) after $3,000 spend in 3 months.
  • 2x miles per $1 spent on ANYTHING
  • $0 annual fee for the first year
  • Easy reward redemption.  You can redeem your miles for any travel expenses right on their website.  This is a great feature since you can book with any airline, any car rental company, and any hotel and don’t have to stick to certain affiliates. Plus get 5% back!
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

Cons:

  • $89 annual fee after the first year.

(Expert Tip) – To avoid paying the annual fee without losing your points, just “downgrade” to the no fee arrival card. That way you won’t have to pay the $89, but still get to keep any unused points.


Citi ThankYou Premier

Pros:

  • Great sign up bonus 50,000 ThankYou points after $3,000 spend in 3 months.
  • 3x ThankYou points on travel, 2x ThankYou on entertainment and dining, 1x ThankYou points on everything else
  • $0 annual fee for the first year
  • Redeem Points through ThankYou Travel Center
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees

Cons:

  • $95 annual fee after the first year
  • Must redeem points through ThankYou Travel Center – meaning you are subject to the travel partners and prices they give you

British Airways Visa Signature Card
