Hydro Flask Sustainable Gift

Water bottles are one of the simplest things to cut back on waste. We never buy single-use plastic water bottles. We have a wide selection of water bottles, but our favorites are from Hydroflask. The insulated aluminum water bottles keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot for hours.

It doesn’t just do a good job at this, it does an excellent job and we’ve often enjoyed piping hot tea on cold morning hours after making it. As a big plus, aluminum is one of the best materials to recycle after the bottle has lived its very long life.

33. Hiking Backpack with Raincover

The most important thing on a backpacking checklist. A proper hiking backpack supports the weight of your load and should hold everything you need for a trip in the great outdoors. A good hiking backpack should be comfortable, have a nice design, proper material, and be the correct volume and weight for your trip. We break down all the best hiking backpacks here.

Our new favorite hiking backpack is made by Gregory. The Gregory Baltoro Gregory backpack is a workhorse designed to be used and abused. The Baltoro/Deva is designed to carry a heavy load without breaking your back on the trail. It has a superior suspension system with plush padding and a great organization.

34. DayPack

Any nature lover needs a good daypack. An adventure a daypack should be more than enough to hold your belongings. My daypack usually consists of a shell jacket, down jacket, hiking poles, bear spray, snacks, water, gloves, chapstick, a buff, first aid kit, navigation, and an emergency blanket.

I love Camelbak daypacks. They are sturdy and fit well on my back with a proper suspension system. This is the Women’s Sequoia 22. Which has a stretch overflow pocket, trekking pole attachments. and air support back panel, dual wing belt, and is built for smaller torsos (I am short.) Their packs are lightweight and sit on the back so well. Cameron has the Fourteener, which is equally amazing. This is one of those 10 essentials for hiking you need.

36. NeoAir Uber Lite

Light sleeping pads are essential for nature and camping lovers. Not only are sleeping pads more comfortable, but it provides insolation that you’ll need to stay warm. The ground gets very cold in the wilderness, even if it’s summer. Without a sleeping pad under you, your body will take in all that cold.

We travel with the new NeoAir Uber Lite. It’s good for backpacking since it only weighs 8oz and you can blow it up in under two minutes.

39. Hiking Poles

Black Diamond Hiking Poles - Packing List

My favorite outdoor and hiking gift on this list are hiking poles.

Know someone that has plans to take part in long multi-day hikes? Then a pair of hiking poles are a great way to save the knees and prevent injuries. If you’re on a full day of hiking in the mountains you’ll gain and descend a lot of elevation. So, it’s easy for your legs to get tired and a pair of hiking poles will pay off. Although I don’t always need hiking poles, they are always in my pack. I almost ALWAYS end up using at least one while I’m descending a mountain.

Black Diamond is a company dedicated to mountain sports and has worked hard to craft wonderful products. I personally use the Black Diamond FLZ Hiking Poles, but there are some other great poles out there produced by companies like REI and MSR. “Z” poles are fantastic as they’re lightweight and can be stashed inside a backpack should you not need them.

40. Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboard

There is no better adventure gift for someone that lives by the water than the gift of a stand-up paddleboard. We just got our first inflatable SUP boards this past summer and they make every day outside so much better.

It’s now never a question of IF we will go out on the water, but when we are heading out on the water every day with our boards.

We debated for a long time about getting inflatable ones and are so happy with our decision. Now we can take these boards anywhere, even hiking to a secret lake.

41. California Cowboy Flannel

California Cowboy Gifts For Travel

One of the best gifts for camping is a heavy duty and high quality flannel.

If I’m camping there is at least one flannel in my bag. Flannels make for great camping and hiking clothes because they are comfortable, warm, and can be worn several times without need for a wash. Also, in the right setting, they look and feel right at home.

My favorites are from California Cowboy. California Cowboy is a small apparel store out of California producing hip, crazy comfortable, and functional clothes.

Their High Sierra shirt is made out of super soft flannel, and warm thermal lining. Plus it has all kinds of pockets to keep a phone, chapstick, or a cold beer. It’s an awesome travel gift that feels more like a jacket than your standard flannel.

Their latest iteration of the jacket employs a shell of recycled nylon taffeta and ethically sourced down. The end result is a more environmentally conscious gift with great performance and value.

43.) Patagonia Fjord Flannel Shirt

Patagonia Fjord Flannel Shirt Eco Friendly Gifts

The difference between organic cotton and commercially grown cotton is massive. It’s easy to view “organic” as a marketing term these days, but in reality, organic cotton consumes far more water and is widely considered the dirtiest crop worldwide.

Conventional cotton accounts for 25% of all pesticides in use around the world. A great sustainable gift or eco-friendly gift is an organic flannel like the Fjord Flannel from Patagonia. It’s perfect for cooler weather and fits a wide range of activities.

56. Rainbow Flip Flops

We used to live in flip flops while at the beach, so when I discovered Rainbow Sandals 10 years ago I bought my first pair and never looked back. Rainbow Sandals are seriously the most comfortable sandal you could ever own. They take a little bit of breaking in, but once they form to your feet they are yours forever.

Rainbow Sandals create strong, quality footwear that won’t end up in a landfill. I’ve only had two pairs in my life. I’ll be getting a third, but not because they didn’t hold up, but because they were stolen from under my seat in Thailand and then again a dog ran away with my flops years later in Nusa Lembongan.

Their flip-flops are either made using hemp or quality leather, these strong fibers are durable and long-lasting. The hemp sole and strap are double-stitched using nylon thread. The bottom of all Rainbow Sandals is non-slip.

57. AllBirds

If you’re shopping for a new pair of travel shoes, likely, you’ve already come across Allbirds on the internet. They’ve billed themselves as the most comfortable shoes in the world, made to fight odor, be worn without socks, and generally handle the demands of travel exceptionally. Those are all some tall claims – I knew I had to have some.

We both got a few pairs and love them. The feeling of wearing them is best compared to wearing a wool sweater – comfortable and cozy. They are so soft and will be our new all around travel shoes. Allbirds tries their best to source sustainable materials for their shoes, which we love. The style is also great, and they look even better in person than online with high-quality details.
