When it comes to planning the most romantic getaways, the world is filled with breathtaking destinations that set the stage for unforgettable experiences. Whether that’s exploring the “City of Love” in Italy, or strolling the streets of Paris with a baguette in hand, there are so many places to have an unforgettable trip with your loved one.
Coming from personal experiences together over the last 10 years of travel, here are some of our favorite places in the world for a romantic getaway.
The World’s Most Romantic Getaways
A cruise around the Galapagos is a bucket-list-worthy travel experience. If you and your lover are into wildlife sightings, it’s a must-visit destination and one of the most romantic getaways you can have.
A cruise is undoubtedly the best way to see the Galapagos Isles off the coast of Ecuador. The wildlife you can see on the relatively untouched islands is fantastic. That’s just what’s on land, as when you step off the gorgeous islands, you’ll find deep blue Pacific water abundant in marine life.
The Galapagos are unlike any other on earth, and it’s easy to understand how the islands inspired Charles Darwin. However, “unlike any other place on earth” usually come with a high price tag, and the Galapagos is no exception. However, if you’ve been saving for something special, this experience won’t disappoint.
Québec City, Canada
When it comes to romance, the French have it right, but Paris isn’t the only romantic French city in the world! Quebec City is like a mini-Paris in the center of Canada, often called the country’s City of Love.
The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so you can expect old buildings, narrow streets, and colorful history. The city’s location on the St. Lawrence River gives it a dreamy feel, especially with the little cafes and eateries.
Walk around Old Quebec admiring the architecture and street art, ride along the river, and indulge at the Chocolate Museum.
When you think of a quintessential romantic city, Venice is likely another place that comes to mind. It’s almost like this place is made for lovers! With its Gothic and Renaissance architecture and beautiful old bridges, you’ll think you’ve stepped back in time.
Go for a dreamy gondola ride through ancient canals, attend the opera at the Teatro La Fenice, and dine in romantic restaurants such as a 600-year-old wine bar.
The Isle of Skye, Scotland
Scotland may not be the first place you think of when deciding on a romantic destination, but The Isle of Skye is worthy of consideration! This place is fairly remote and there is limited accommodation, so you won’t find a colossal crowd, makings it super appealing for couples.
However, the incredible coastal scenery set against the backdrop of towering mountains makes this place seem so fantasy-like…and romantic!
Go hiking in the sprawling countryside, tour historic Dunvegan Castle, and find a place to snuggle up and enjoy a fantastic sunset. After dark, you might even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights during the winter months!
Santorini is among the most popular honeymoon getaways in the world, but you don’t have to be newlyweds to enjoy a romantic holiday on this unique Greek island. The scenery alone, consisting of shops, eateries, and accommodations built on the cliffs in Oia, is the perfect backdrop for romance.
Stroll along narrow streets admiring the architecture and views or set out on a wine tour. Visit hot springs, go horseback riding on the beach, go cliff jumping near a black sand beach, or lounge in one of the infinity pools overlooking the sea.
If looking for something super romantic book a sunset sailing adventure or watch the sun go down from Oia, followed by an open-air movie at Kamari Cinema.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
The clear, turquoise waters, picture-perfect white-sand beaches, and an underwater world full of colorful tropical fish and coral…what more could you ask for in a romantic tropical destination?
Well, one of those overwater bungalows that Bora Bora is so renowned for makes for the perfect secluded getaway where it feels like the two of you are the only people left on the planet!
Swim with turtles, book a couple’s massage on the beach, or do something daring and go parasailing together. Enjoy an evening gazing at the clear night sky on a stargazing cruise.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Balkans
There are fewer tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina than in other European countries, which makes it appealing to couples seeking a romantic getaway.
This hidden gem is where lovers can kayak in pristine rivers, admire spectacular mountain vistas, stroll the streets of beautiful Sarajevo and explore the natural beauty of places like Una National Park and walk along the bridges of Mostar.
Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica
Does jungle trekking, seeing bright red macaws, and waking up to the sounds of the rainforest sound ideal to you? Then book a trip to Costa Rica and head to the Osa Peninsula.
The Osa Peninsula offers a romantic getaway with pristine beaches, captivating nature, and secluded retreats. Its untouched beaches provide a serene setting for couples to relax, stroll hand in hand, and enjoy private picnics by the shore. The peninsula’s lush rainforests and diverse wildlife create a romantic backdrop for adventurous activities and shared exploration.
Intimate accommodations, such as eco-lodges and boutique resorts, offer seclusion and breathtaking views for couples to unwind and connect. One of our favorite places to stay in Costa Rica is Lapa Rios, in the heart of the jungle. It’s a romantic setting, with delicious food and fantastic activities.
Looking for a romantic getaway with a little bit of cool weather? Perhaps traveling to the frozen continent will interest you! Traveling to Antarctica is not as difficult as you may think, with many cruises departing Ushuaia, Argentina, between November and March!
Yes, you must cross the infamous Drake Passage, but once that is through, you’ll be surrounded by your love and millions of penguins! There’s not much that sounds more romantic to me!
The Berkshires, Massachusetts, USA
While many couples decide to take a romantic vacation in the Berkshires in the fall when the trees change color, any time of year is a great time to go there! The best way to enjoy The Berkshires as a couple is to rent a car and set out on the open road together to explore the area’s nature.

Stroll through fields of Lavender at the Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm or stroll along the shore on the Ka’anapali Beachwalk. Take Hula lessons together and cuddle under a star-lit sky.
Prague, Czech Republic
Imagine riding side-by-side down the narrow streets of a medieval city in a horse-drawn carriage. This is what a romantic evening in Prague is like.
Nicknamed The City of a Hundred Spires, the city is steeped in fascinating history reflected in stunning architecture. Take a cruise down the Vltava River, sample local chocolate at the fine shops in the Old Town, visit the Love Lock Bridge, and see the locks lovers have left behind to profess their love for one another.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Imagine a place so romantic that you and your sweetie can spend long, sunny days walking hand-in-hand atop towering cliffs lining a sparkling sea, watching sunsets from the patio of a cliffside villa, and dining on seafood that was taken a right from the sea that morning.
This is the Amalfi Coast, a picturesque place where you can explore narrow streets that lead to quaint fishing villages and stunning beaches. Hire a boat and sail along this scenic coast and admire the views from the sea.
Aspen, Colorado, USA
Aspen is one of the best small towns in the USA and is world-renowned for its skiing, but just because you haven’t heard about the town’s reputation for being a year-round romantic destination doesn’t mean it’s not true! Of course, if you visit in winter, nothing beats hitting the slopes, followed by an evening of hot tub soaking and cuddling next to a roaring fire.
The resorts here are luxurious, but the nature surrounding them sparks romance every season. Take a gondola ride to get an aerial view of the town, or go all out with a hot air balloon ride over the Rocky Mountains.
One of Asia’s most romantic cities has always been Kyoto. While the cherry blossoms that bloom on the trees in spring invoke romance, this city is for lovers any time of year! Do a romantic shoot in the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and tour the city together in a rickshaw.
A walk along the Philosopher’s Path is a great way to spend a lovely morning, as is a tour of the beautiful Japanese Gardens. Enjoy a traditional Maiko performance in town, and check out the peaceful Golden Pavilion Buddhist temple all before a delicious sushi meal, which of course is one of the best Japanese meals to have!
Santiago is a huge city, but it’s also surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in South America, which includes the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains and the rugged Chilean coastline.
Take some time to explore the city on foot before heading on the open road to explore the countryside. Along the way, sample world-renowned local wines, dine on incredible cuisine in stunning eateries, admire the beautiful architecture, and learn how to dance the Cueca together.
It doesn’t matter your romance style; Bali caters to everyone! From adventurous couples to laid-back duos, you’ll find the perfect getaway here to jump-start a new romance or rekindle an old one.

Wadi Rum, Jordan
If you love the movie Lawrence of Arabia and want to live out desert dreams, visiting Jordan is essential.
Wadi Rum is one of our favorite places in Jordan and is a wild desert home to nomadic Bedouins who have lived here for centuries if not millennia. It is a place of extremes with scorching hot summers and biting winters. Unlike the previous deserts we visited in Namibia, Tunisia, and Morocco, Wadi Rum contains towering monoliths, mountains, and canyons. It is a unique place in the world and staggeringly beautiful.
While booking a day trip to Wadi Rum is possible, you won’t be disappointed by staying the night there.

We’ve been on over 100 African safaris and can’t deny that there is something incredibly romantic about them. Waking up in the bush with your loved one, followed by an epic game drive to see some of Africa’s most majestic animals, is something we recommend every couple experience together at least once.
Days aren’t just spent in the bush searching for elephants; there is plenty of relaxation time on safari. From afternoon tea to swims overlooking the savannah, followed by a gin and tonic as the sun sets (also referred to as a sundowner), something is exciting and relaxing enough for everyone on safari.
The Canadian Rockies

Orangutan Exploring in Borneo
Last year we decided that after seeing the mountain gorillas in Uganda, and chimpanzees in Rwanda, we wanted to cross seeing the orangutans in Borneo off our list. So we ventured to the Malaysian island and booked a few days at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, a Nat Geo Lodge that David Attenborough stayed at while filming in Borneo.
The experience was nothing short of magical and the opportunity to see wild oranguangs is one we will never forget! If you are after a romantic jungle escape with some rare wildlife, Borneo (or Sumatra) are great calls!
Nile River Cruise, Egypt
We’ll end this list of the most romantic getaways with one of our favorite experiences yet – a Nile River Cruise in Egypt, though we’re not recommending just any Nile River Cruise, but instead a cruise on the historic Steam Ship Sudan, an old steamer that Death on the Nile was written about.
The Steam Ship Sudan, also known as S/S Sudan, is a historic vessel synonymous with luxury and adventure on the Nile River. Built-in 1885, it is one of the oldest steamships still in operation and has an intriguing history that adds to its charm.
